Living as Your Future Self

Our brains do not know the difference of what you are experiencing in your mind (your imagination) vs in real life (outside world). I learned this from 2004 when I watched the mind-blowing movie "What the Bleep Do We Know" and have been following most of those researchers ever since! Especially, Dr. Joe Dispenza and his scientific research on Neuroplasticity.
PAST
When I fully comprehended the weight of this phenomenon, my outlook on life changed drastically. The phenomenon is that when you are sitting alone, just thinking, ruminating, imagining, re-experiencing, something that happened in the past, or something you are worried about possibly happening in the future--- your brain and body experiences those emotions, and hormone chemicals that those emotions release, as YOUR ACTUAL REALITY IN THAT MOMENT. For example, if you are still upset about your past relationship that broke your heart, your brain doesn't know if you are actually getting your heartbroken AGAIN, right now, or if you are just remembering that past heartbreak. Back when it happened, you experienced all of those painful emotions of loss, grief, rejection, sadness, and all of the tears and heartache. Then, each time, in your present life, when you are in your imagination and remembering that heartache, and RE-feeling those same emotions AGAIN, your brain is experiencing that memory over and over again, every single time you let yourself dwell there. You are conditioning your brain and your neural pathways to feel those physical sensations of sadness. Your brain chemistry and nervous system are wiring you to feel those emotions and behave accordingly, which is behaving in a depressed or sad way.
PRESENT
However, if you do not allow yourself to live in the past, or to constantly dwell and re-experience those past painful memories, then you can be present and choose the emotions you want to feel in order to override those past emotions that no longer serve you. If you live in the present moment, in full acceptance of your current situation, and then decide how you would like to feel moving forward, then you can begin creating YOUR FUTURE SELF. Being in the here and now PRESENT MOMENT is essentially all we truly should be striving for. Being in the PRESENT takes mindful consciousness through meditation. We can create our FUTURE, in the moment, by choosing to envision and evoke the EMOTIONS of our imagined future, in the now, which will make our brains believe that it is REAL right now. Just as your brain believes your past is happening again, when you are imagining it, you can FLIP THE SCRIPT and imagine your most amazing potential possible FUTURE too, and let your brain believe that it is really happening.
FUTURE
Your FUTURE self is absolutely UNLIMITED! If you want to be a person who feels JOY AND PEACE, then you must create that EMOTION from inside of you, and feel it, and let your brain do the rest! Your brain will experience those joyful peaceful emotions by producing those corresponding neurochemicals that will then start to hardwire into your habitual thinking. If you can sit every day in a meditative state and imagine your future self experiencing whatever your heart desires and the joyful feelings that reaching those goals would bring you, then feeling those joyful emotions, and your brain will produce those neurochemicals that will flood your body and you'll be sitting there feeling butterflies and buzzing tingles of joy, and a smile will spread across your face, and you'll feel so GOOD! Then, if you do this each day, or any time really, and your brain will get accustomed to producing these HAPPY EXPERIENCES for you and it will become a habit! The OPPOSITE OF THIS is if you constantly let yourself think low vibration thoughts which cause your brain to produce sadness, fear, hurt, pain, etc- those neurochemicals will become the habitual hardwired state that your brain will become accustomed to.
UNLIMITED POTENTIAL
You have unlimited potential! If you can imagine your greatest goals in life and truly bring it to life in your mind, then you can begin to feel what it would feel like for that dream goal to be your reality. It takes ACTION TOO, of course, you'll need to implement real world action steps to reach your goals, but the thing that motivates you to TAKE THE ACTION STEPS, are the EMOTIONS that come with imagining your future potential and the emotions of success in becoming that future self. I work on my visualizations of my future self every day by envisioning myself having a flexible schedule, an easy slow paced life, being outside in nature, spending time with my good family and friends, being active and healthy, loving my body, feeling strong and powerful! When I am picturing all of these things in my head, and for example, imagining myself hiking up in Nevada City at the Yuba River, and then climbing down the rocks and putting my feet in that magical transparent cold water, and looking up with my arms outstretched towards the sun, hanging my head back with my eyes closed and feeling the sunshine heating up my face and arms and body, and then can feel the tingling sensation of the sun actually interacting with my skin and causing that heated tingle and it feels so good and hot and then I jump into the river to cool off! I get so deep into the daydream and truly feel like I am REALLY THERE at the river. I trick my brain into believing that it's happening, and I feel exactly how I would feel if I was at the Yuba. I create those emotions by myself. I cause my body to release all of those happy feel good chemicals that flood my brain and heart which brings me to a place of PURE ECSTASY! My brain doesn't know the difference! I don't wait for the outside world to make me feel anything, I can create my own feelings within myself, by myself. I don't spend too much time reliving old sad or bad times, because I don't want to feel those things too much anymore. Of course, I experience negativity like anyone else, but the DIFFERENCE is that I don't STAY THERE too long. I move out of that lower state and move back to a higher state much quicker.
WHO DO YOU WANT TO BE?
So really, the only thing you need to do is know who you want to be, what you want to be like, who you want to be surrounded by, how do you want your daily life to look like? If you can picture it, write it down, visualize it, and create the emotions of what it would feel like, then you are taking one step towards it! It is a daily practice. Your personal reality becomes your personality.
